Rehabilitation of the Culver Line Viaduct, Phase II

The rehabilitation of the Culver Line Viaduct is a unique undertaking of The Judlau Companies.  Four Judlau firms – Judlau Contracting, TC Electric, J-Track and Welkin Mechanical – came together to offer the Metropolitan Transportation Authority an integrated full-service approach, highlighting our strength as a multi-disciplined company.

This $178.8 million project in Brooklyn includes the rehabilitation of the concrete viaduct deck including waterproofing, and removal of existing track, signal and cables within the viaduct limit to permit repair and rehabilitation of the existing concrete deck.

Judlau is furnishing and installing all materials and equipment for over 16000 feet of new LVT track from the 4th Ave Portal to the Carroll Street Portal on the culver line.  This includes new third rail power, signals, communications, 78’ bolted rails, LVT ties, waterproofing and structure drainage.  In addition, a new relay room facility and CIR are being constructed.  This project also involves the construction of two diamond crossovers and two crossovers.

In the phasing of this project, a signal mimic system is being installed and temporary hard rail connections to move the train to proper tracks is also being utilized.  Temporary passenger platforms are being utilized to serve passengers, while the trains run on a temporary route through the work area.
